About us

Braintree Riding Club came about in 2007 because we felt there was a need for events where the emphasis is on fun. We aim to provide an informal, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy yourself while learning a bit at the same time. We cater for novice riders and those who haven't riden for a while!

Now coming into our sixth year, our competitor numbers have grown. We are proud to say that we continue our aim of providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere where complete novice riders, whether adults or children, can come and have fun while increasing their equestrian knowledge and capabilities.

We're delighted -and proud - that many of our founder members have progressed through the ranks and now compete with confidence at local level; some have even reached the standard to compete at affiliated shows.

Committee Members

Jacqui Jelf (Chairman/Secretary) Founder of the club. Jacqui has been involved with horses for over forty years.

Zoë Cain (Vice Chairman/Chief Instructor) Zoë is an international dressage rider, representing the UK in RDA competitions worldwide. Zoë is available for private tuition, either in Braintree or at your own location. www.culvercroft.webs.com

Rebecca Alliston (Treasurer) has been involved with horses since aged eight, belonging to the East Essex Hunt PC and participating in all teams. She is now a mum of three and enjoys seeing the children with their ponies at lots of local fun shows.

Amber Rowe says "I have been riding since old enough to hold my own head up lol. Was happy to just hack out and do the odd showing show until I came to the club with my home bred cob and took a real shine to dressage!!!"

Farewell

Linda Farnell

After almost six years as co-founder of the Braintree Riding Club, Linda has finally decided that she needs more time to herself and to spend with her growing family, one grandchild born earlier this year and another due very soon.

It was a very sad night when we finally said au revoir to her at the presentation evening in October 2011 when she received a big bouquet of flowers (in the club colours of yellow and green), a pink rose bush for her garden called Thank You and a couple of books on the pitfalls of keeping hens – which seems to be her new hobby now!!

You will note that it was only 'au revoir' and not 'goodbye' as we have already pinned her down to running a long distance ride for us in 2012 and no doubt she will be popping along to see us all as next season progresses.

Trophies, Prizes & Rosettes

There are loads of trophies to be won each year; not only those that you can work towards winning at the October presentations, but others will be popping up unexpectedly at our shows as the season progresses. There are cups, shields, medals and even sashes to be won, as well as the odd prize or two!

There are trophies for the senior and junior competitor gaining the most points over the season, plus trophies for the most improved dressage rider, most improved show jumping rider and the most improved horse or pony.

We were extremely lucky last year (2011), and were sponsored by Paton & Lee Equine Veterinary Surgeons. Those of you who have competed with us over the last year or so will also know how great our rosettes are! Their sponsorship ensured that each competitor at the August Annual Show went home with one of their special rosettes.
